Has anyone seen episodes of The Real L World?
I'm sure many of you have heard of it, but if not, it's Ilene Chaiken's (creator of the L word) new reality television show about lesbians living in LA.
See, I did enjoy the (fake?) L Word (well, up until the last season, maybe. That was like watching a trainwreck.) and I'm glad for shows that put same-sex relationships in the media, but I'm disappointed when I watch them. I understand it's already considered "out there" and that the shows can be a risky investment as it is, but I wish the characters weren't so.. assimilated? White bread? I feel like they often make them the most "acceptable" representation of queer people for a mainstream audience, and I don't relate. But then I wonder if that's just really too much to ask for from any form of mainstream media, gay or straight, to have truly authentic and diverse characters.
Either way, I thought maybe it could be a little different if it was reality-based, but again, I watch the show and wonder "Where do they find all these lesbians?" cause none of the kind of queer people I meet or know are really represented.
Thoughts? Thought about the show in general? It makes me cringe, hahahah. Lesbian drama = the worst.
