Police remove media from DADT protest in front of White House

Apr 20, 2010 20:28

So, there was a protest of Don't Ask, Don't Tell at Lafayette Park in front of the White House today, and the media was banished by police from covering it (and the rightful removal of the protesters, some of whom handcuffed themselves to the White House gates). Here's a short article, with a video.

The park is iconic, and regularly has protesters. Having been there myself (and heckled the hippie who lives there protesting nukes), this is just...odd. I'm not saying Obama sent goons out to intimidate the media - I'm not naive enough to think the President has time to keep up with every protest - but this is odd enough to know that federal law enforcement wouldn't have made this decision on their own.
