Arkansas: Adoption Ban Struck Down
A judge on Friday struck down a law approved by voters that banned gay couples and other unmarried people living together from being adoptive or foster parents. Judge Chris Piazza of Pulaski County Circuit Court said, “Due process and equal protection are not hollow words without substance.” A group of families, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, sued in 2008 to overturn the ban. They argued that there were too few families willing to adopt or serve as foster parents in Arkansas, which has an average of 1,600 children on waiting lists. The law effectively banned gay men and lesbians from adopting or fostering children because they may not legally marry in Arkansas.

Law trumps bigotry and "the will of the people" again. Glad the state isn't so backward as to have judges who'd agree with that "will." Out of all the crap that went down on election day 2008, this was definitely the most infuriating (to me), if not the most publicized.
