Cardinal George and New Ways Ministry
For those of you unfamiliar with the New Ways Ministry, it is a Catholic group that has been advocating for LGBT Catholics for 30 years. Here is a quote from its site.
"[New Ways Ministry is] a gay-positive ministry of advocacy and justice for lesbian and gay Catholics
and reconciliation within the larger Christian and civil communities.
Through research, publication and education about homosexuality, we foster dialogue among groups and individuals, identify and combat personal and structural homophobia, work for changes in attitudes and promote the acceptance of gay and lesbian people as full and equal members of church and society. "Recently Cardinal George issued a statement claiming that the New Ways Ministry does not provide “an authentic interpretation of Catholic teaching.”
New Ways Ministry was very upset especially since they were not contacted at all about this and only heard about it from a press release. As they said "If the USCCB had concerns about our ministry, why didn’t they contact us before a judgment was made? Why was New Ways Ministry not given an opportunity to explain our positions? "

[I realize that many of you will likely be uninterested in this, and that several are hostile to Christians (often understandably), but I thought there might be a few who would want to help. My apologies for not narrowcasting this but I do not know who specifically would be interested.
For myself I think it is important to support allies within larger generally hostile groups in the hopes that they can help make a change from inside.]
