The first US Census
numbers are indicating that 150,000 gay couples say they're married even though only about 100,000 marriage certificates and civil union-ships have been issued. The number is also about 27% of all gay couples surveyed, which is surprising people. It surprises me, too, but for a different reason - of all cohabitating gay couples, only 1/4 or so answered that they were "in a relationship akin to 'husband' and 'wife'"? It is also a lower number than in 2007, when only Massachusetts issued gay marriage licenses, and only to residents of Massachusetts.
