On Company Outings:

Mar 07, 2009 20:15

For my February birthday, the company where I am employed threw me a birthday luncheon. It was very fun and thoughtful, and I stayed so busy that morning that I was thoroughly surprised to see a set up table with food at the end of our show room. Most of the 'front end' staff are women, save for my Sam, president of the company, and I am the youngest there; ages range from 39-80, and I am nineteen. We had a lovely time, and I received several cards. Cheryl, who knows me quite well (as she should, since I lived with her), got me a suggestive card and warned that I probably shouldn't open it in front of everyone. Naturally, every one wanted to see it at that point.

The card read, "You're older now. Time to throw out the rubber ducky and swim with a real Navy Seal." (I paraphrase)

Of course, the card was passed around to everyone, and it was both humiliating and humorous at the same time. The last person to read it Sam, said "Well, anything goes."

I thought it was a rather well-received response from everyone at the table, and I was impressed that it was such a non-issue at a privately owned company in Texas.

Thoughts? Similar experiences?
