Two stories I hope to one day see, free to good home.

Given the bit in "Not To Be" with Amanda as a black widow... does no one else want a fic where she and Natasha are both after the same guy for different reasons?  And, quite possibly, team up against the guy?  (The idea of Amanda eventually freelancing for SHIELD is terrifying, however.)

Also, am I the only one who thinks Kono from Hawai'i Five-O ( Read more... )

plus, Kono is a great shot, and extremely adept at hand-to-hand fighting (uses every advantage). She's also clever and daring.

what kind of sword would you give her?

Yeah. She really *would* be an amazing immortal.

As for sword, depends on who's teaching her. I think possibly both Cossack sword (think pound and a half, foot and a half long cavalry sword; short, so easily concealed) in the trunk for short notice fights and possibly a liuyedao (longer, slightly less curved Chinese sword) for fights where she has more warning. I suspect with a couple back-up daggers down boots or back of shirt. She strikes me as very practical!

Butterfly swords maybe?

She'd be good with those, but I don't know if she has the mass for a challenge with them. She'd have to get inside their blade reach and then it's as much hand to hand as anything else. Most male immortals are gonna have reach and mass on her, and possibly experience. Could be ugly early on. (Down the road, it's a *brilliant* idea.)

So we turn on how old Kono is. If she's as old as 1778 (when Captain Cook landed), would she be using them?

If she's that old, then yes, absolutely, by now she would. Here's the question: Is it canon that she blew out her knee in a surf competition? If so, are you going with she was mortal then, or she was immortal, getting too famous, and got out with help from a mortal (possibly Watcher) doctor?

I've only seen the pilot of Hawai'i Five-O so I can't answer about canon. Even if Kono was just a baby immortal, I'd still go with "she was immortal, getting too famous" or she was just stick of circuit drama.

::lol:: I haven't even seen that much. Mine's from fannish osmosis. But cool, run with that mother!

Yeah, no thanks. Someone who's in Hawai'i Five-O fandom needs to write this one. I'm just standing in the background thinking thoughts.

That's exactly how I feel!

It was stated that she blew out her knee in a surf competition, and that her sponsor paid for the hospitalization and rehabilitation (per the episode where Kevin Sorbo was a guest star). However, that doesn't mean a person can't play around with that, especially if you make Chin Immortal too since he was the one giving the backstory. ;)

My difficulty in having Kono (and Chin for that matter) be an old *Hawaiian* Immortal is that she's too obviously Korean to me. One would have to explain how a Korean got to Hawaii before the big Korean immigration (for the plantations) occurred, unless you want to say she was already an Immortal at the time and used the immigration to flee Korea for whatever reason, and in turn got adopted into a Hawaiian Immortal Line somehow. Or she somehow snuck in with the Chinese plantation immigrants, if one wants her to be in Hawaii longer than that. Either way, Grace Park's physical appearance makes it difficult for me to think she's Hawaiian.

::laughing:: Oh, these things can always be worked around. (By which I meant the knee.)

Hmm. Given that, I can see her coming over as a pre-immortal for one of the immigrations and, having been there ever since and given her line, she considers herself a Hawaiian immortal. It's certainly workable. I think she'd go to the butterfly swords after thirty, forty years in the Game, so, doable.

I just learned that Hawaii has its own fighting style -- Lua. I can't add all the links I found because my comment got marked as spam.

Huh! I got both versions of the reply! Thank you for the links!

ETA: Although, I have to say this: I've never watched H50, have no plans to watch it, even for the pretty, andam not going to be writing this fic!

All that said? More info, neat! Thanks!

I feel exactly the same way.

I was very excited to learn about Lua. A canoe paddle as a deadly weapon -- how is this not cool?

Plus, isn't Flynn still in Honolulu? Just because he's teaching aikijutsu doesn't mean he can't learn Lua.
