Always enjoy reading about McCormick ;-)

However, I have a question : in Hot Pursuit, you have him say he has a rendez-vous at a "sallé"...

I understand from context, but... what language is that?

just curious ;-)

::grins at you:: A very good question! I'm not sure if it's 19th century US or British fic I picked that one up in. I take it that if it was from the French, I've completely screwed up the spelling?

Would the French be sallee des armes? (In which case mark it to misremembering the 3 Musketeers and I've definitely screwed up, yup.)

I don't know : never saw that form in French... If it is French, it should be "salle", without the accent (unless it's an old form of French?).

Or "salle d'armes", which is either where the arms would be stored (including firearms), or where "escrime" is practiced.

It doesn't really matter : I was just curious about the origins of the word. I'm like that about words ;-)

Most likely, it doesn't need the accent, and I'll go correct it. Thank you for catching it and telling me! And I'd say it's from my jackdaw brain, but I think it might also be from Microsoft Word 'correcting' my spelling. Thank you!

Yes, that happens to me a lot ;-(
I usually just disable the d*mn thing since it's not bright enough to understand that there is more than one language on the planet...

Thank you for catching it and telling me!

I am a bit "anal" about proper French... Sorry ;-(

No, no, no apology necessary. I'm *horrible* with French (don't ask me why; Russian gave me no trouble, or Latin, or Japanese, or a couple others!)and I really *do* appreciate you telling me!

You're way ahead of me on the language front : I'm trying to learn Spanish (where French helps), and German (where the English does)...

But it's a long process ;-)

I really *do* appreciate you telling me!

Ouf! I really hesitated before posting ;-/

Hey, I'd really rather a friend tells me I've screwed something up, so I can fix it. So, thank you. Ann Blessing used to send me all the small typos she caught for exactly that reason.
