Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?
mischief /
Mischief5 gave me Firefly, Good Omens, Nero Wolfe.
killabeez gave me Magnificent 7, X-Files, and Wild, Wild West.
Firefly:
1. I wasn't ever much in the fandom. ::amused:: Honestly, I'm not in most fandoms. I started watching the show when it first came on, mostly because I wanted to see what Whedon would do with it, and kept with it because I loved Book, Inara, Zoe & Wash, and Kaylee. Mal had to grow on me, and I never did get all that fond of Simon, River, or Jayne. (Jayne's funny? But oh gods, I would no want to stay around him any length of time.)
2. I've pretty much moved on already. I enjoyed it, but it's a little post-apocalyptic for me, with Earth-That-Was and the Alliance/Browncoat war. I'll still read some fic in it, though.
3. Our Mrs. Reynolds is wonderful, honestly. I love the humor in Firefly, don't like the dark nearly so much. So I have favorite scenes, really: Kaylee eating that strawberry, River freaking out over Book's hair, Mal sitting around naked after a heist, Zoe dragging Wash off to bed, Wash and the dinosaurs. Oh, and I absolutely love Shrift's fic about '
Big Damn Zombies, Sir.'
4. I've written, um, one FF story and one FF/HL crossover, I think. More might happen, but it'd be momentary inspiration.
5. I'm really not sure. More good stories in the fandom are great, but we've had some beauties and there's only so much source canon to play with.
Good Omens:
1. I read the book when it first came out, since I adored Pratchett. Dragon and I read the SFBC version into a broken spine, and bought the anniversary hardback edition to replace it. The fandom, however, I'm not active in. Merewyn/Anaith is, but I'm not.
2. I'm only in this fandom in the sense that I've written some fic for it and have other friends who dearly love the book. I do adore the book, however, so hey, that's not going to change anytime soon.
3. Too many favorite things to count. All cassettes turn into Queen eventually, Crowley's poor houseplants and the commentary on computer legal paperwork, Aziraphale's additions to the book of Genesis, the various odd Bibles (and the Library of Congress asking if there are such books!), Aziraphale's snarks in the latest editions about Intelligent Design (see the angel's new year's resolutions...) really, though, GO had me from the moment I got to Crowley in the Dramatis Personae: 'An angel who did not so much fall as saunter vaguely downwards.'
4. Hmm. I wrote HL/GO fic for my first of the 100 HL Crossovers (nearly got bounced from the library for giggling too much, I suspect). More GO could yet happen. It's fun.
5. Good Omens is lovely fun, and glorious satire, and I live for the day that someone uses Crowley or Aziraphale to explain how Krycek got out of that damn silo.
Nero Wolfe:
1. I ended up in Nero Wolfe because I beta'd a fic for
m-butterfly for Yuletide, and got suckered in by the voices. Then she kindly suggested books to start with (I got to wander into a fandom that already had 70 novels/short stories, and two seasons of glorious adaptations with Timothy Hutton -- riches beyond measure) and I've been having a blast ever since.
2. The books have become some of my favorite comfort reading. I don't think I'm going anywhere, even if I don't usually participate in discussion on the mailing lists.
3. I love the books and adaptations of Champagne for One, Death of a Doxy, The Mother Hunt, and The Doorbell Rang. Of the other books, I also love And Be A Villain, The Second Confession, In the Best Families, The Father Hunt, A Right To Die, and A Family Affair.
4. I've only written one NW fic, a crossover with Connor MacLeod, since he's also in NYC in the relevant time periods, but I'm inordinately proud of it. I had a blast writing a fic from Saul's POV.
5. Yes, absolutely. More good NW fic would be lovely, and it's got such riches in the novels, and short stories, and adaptations. it's not quite a little black dress fandom, but it comes close. And the characters are a complete joy.
Magnificent 7:
1. Yet another fandom that's someone else's fault. ;-.
witch-in-winter got me into this one, as I remember it. At the very least, she sent me home with the good copies of the episodes. I love the actor who plays Chris, though, and fell for the way all the characters do (and don't) get along, so it's no surprise I ended up here, somehow.
2. I'm don't often pull the eps out just to rewatch (although Dragon and I went through a lot of them when I was researching for
Appearances), but I enjoy the characters and will happily go read recommended fic in this fandom, particularly the gen/humor/ATF stories.
3. None in particular at the moment? Although that's as much because I'm terrible with individual episodes for this fandom.
4. Not often, but I've had a great time over the years discussing the characters with Killa and Witch In Winter. And I've got one HL/M7 crossover that was great fun, and I'm currently working on a M7/Talon novels crossover.
5. Why not? It was a good show, there's a character (or three) for everyone's tastes... yeah, go for it.
X-Files:
1. Oh, Lord. Okay, this one may be laid solidly to the account of
alysswolf. She not only got me into this fandom, she introduced me to fanfiction because she was writing XF fic and having a great time. Um, end of season... 4, I think. Lord. That's been a while.
2. I've been here for probably a dozen years and I'm not actually out of things to say in this universe. I'm here for a while yet.
3. Favorites? Oh, yeah. The Unnatural. Kaddish. The Red and the Black. Bad Blood. Sleepless. The Blessing Way. Triangle. Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose. When this show was good, it was superb.
4. Oh, hell yes. I was in discussions (still occasionally am), wrote and still write fic. Years, and years, of fic. Still read fic, too.
5. I'd like to see more people in this fandom, yeah. I'd like to see more gen, more case files, more monsters of the week. Come on in, there were nine seasons (even if I ignore the last two). Plenty of water to swim in, and everything from horror to pity to humor. (Bad Blood still makes me giggle. A lot.)
Wild, Wild West:
1. As a kid, I grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons and then changing channels over to watch Wild, Wild West. I loved the hair's breadth escapes, I loved the villains, the wit, the gadgets, Artemus and Jim and their train. Hell, I loved watching the final scene of each segment turn into part of the episode montage. As an adult I love the campiness, the tight pants (boy are they), the sheer quantities of bondage kink that somehow got past the sensors.
2 I'm not technically sure I'm in this fandom, honestly. I don't write it, have icons, talk about it much... I've read a couple good Yuletide stories, and happily gossiped about Jim and Artie with Killa once or twice, but I have yet to get the DVDs. ::amused:: In short, move on? I'm not even sure I've been here!
3. Couldn't tell you specific favorite eps.
4. If the occasional purr of "oh, yeah, I remember that show" counts, then yes. Actually, driving back from ballet, I was thinking that I would love to see someone write Jim and Artemus trying to cope with Amanda when she owned the Double Eagle.
5. Actually... yes. Especially with the rise of steampunk AUs, I think a lot of the current fanfic writers and artists would have a complete blast with Wild, Wild West. And oh, man, I can so see the crossover/fusion possibilities. The idea of Rodney McKay and Artemus Gordon in one place (or Artie and Zelenka, who'd work together much more smoothly) has real potential. I'm just not the one to write it.
These were ridiculously fun. Comment below if you'd like me to pick three fandoms for you!
