The twenty first lines meme

Aug 29, 2008 23:28

What the hell. The (adapted) twenty first lines meme, since it looked like fun. The idea is to guess/remember which story goes with which first line and I added one extra, since the first line's a gimme. The first five people to guess more than ten right get to give me three words -- not names; seeing who turns up is half the fun -- for prompts ( Read more... )

This looks like a fun meme, but what is the meme, if you don't mind me asking? What am I guessing - which story?

::headdesk:: Yeah. You can tell I'm up too late again... ;-> Yup, guess which story goes with which opening line. Whoo boy. Thanks, Killa!

Damn, you write good first lines. I feel instantly pulled in, and it's rather disorienting, reading them one after another here. I think that #14 is the sequel to Momento Mori, the good dream.

Thanks! ::cheerful:: I also have first lines like, and I kid you not, "Huh." ::highly amused:: That seemed a little obscure.

I think if I did favorite first lines, it would be a different list. Some of them are favorites *because* they tell you immediately what the story's about, if you get what I mean.

Yup, you got 14 right! That was Therapeutic. 13 was Memento Mori.

Some of these rang in my brain immediately, but some of them I had to look up the titles:

1. Ill Met by Moonlight. One of my favorite Buffy/HL crossovers.

2. Sirocco. I've read this one too many times to forget how it starts.

6. Fire in the Hole. Another great Buffy/HL crossover.

7. The Devil's Own

9. Poaching

10. Parched

11. Our Stranger

18. Respite

19. Drowning

21. Fools Everywhere - a great story of how stupid some newbies can be, and how hard it can be for those sworn to only watch.

I know that's 11 (I counted) but it's half an hour past my bedtime, so I sleep on it and give you three words tomorrow (or Sunday, if I don't get to the computer tomorrow.)

Thanks for writing all that great fiction!

::grins at you:: It's ten, actually, but hey, close enough and wow, am I impressed! Sure, post those three words!

I told you I was up a half an hour after my bedtime! *g*

Since I'm feeling silly, let's go for these:

Purple

Co-ed (LMU starts up this week, and I'm seeing lots of them in the neighborhood, and 'student' is too general.)

farthingale (a term for a hoopskirt in the Elizabethan Era).

Go for it.

I know that I've read every single one of those. But given that I cannot even remember co-workers' names, whom I see on a weekly, if not daily basis, there is no way I could possibly name any of those stories. Unless, of course, I went into my files directory, the one named "Rhiannon", and opened each one up to find the opening lines.

Because yes, I have all of your stories on my hard drive. *grin* And all of the Aidan series on my PDA as well, for re-reading at my convenience.

::laughing:: Does that mean you don't remember the title, or the story? If it's just the title, give me a summary of the story, and we'll count it. ;-> (Meanwhile, I'm still horrified that I've written so many stories!)

::amused:: Don't let it stop you from guessing, seeing as I haven't confirmed anything.

And yes, you were right on all of them. So, name your three words and I'll see what I can do!
