Some notes on Duncan, so I don't lose them again

Dec 30, 2007 21:07

Once, years ago, I went through and counted up all the heads Duncan took, friends whose deaths were reported, lovers dead, etc, during the five and a half years covered by HL:the series. (I didn't count the Raven's stats in this.) I'm posting the numbers behind a cut-tag, to save my friends' lists, but here so that I won't lose the damn list again ( Read more... )

Brian Cullen should count as a lover :) You know, somewhere I have notes about a Brian/Duncan story I was supposed to write a long long time ago...

Brian really should count, yes. ::grins:: I hope you write that! I've seen Raine's "Bitter Pill" about Brian's death, but I can't remember too many others off the top of my head.

It was supposed to be for a Duncan/Other(than Methos) challenge, and I drew Brian. I must go back and do more research...*g*

They really put Duncan through the ringer, didn't they? And some of those Quickenings were old. Grayson, Nefertiri, Kronos, Caspian... How does one so relatively young assimilate such powerful personalities? Monastery? Sweet Lady, it's a wonder he didn't end up in a psych ward.

Yeah, several of those quickenings were old. It really is a helluva list. The miracle is that he didn't snap.

What does Claudia Jardene count as? She's not as student per se, but he did try to persuade her to learn. Also, what about that pre-immie girl he got friends to adopt? Michelle, I think.

Finally, its Fitz that I'd be tempted to count as a lover. They certainly gave the impression that the two attended a few orgies together. They may not have touched, but how much swiving in the same room does it take to grow . . . fond of someone?

Actually, I should have been more clear: I wasn't counting the students from the start of that, as I remember, so Claudia probably does count. I think Amanda taught Michelle Webster, however.

And I can certainly see your point on Fitz, although I do think he's pretty solidly a one on the Kinsey scale -- all in favor of fun, but just not interested in guys. ::amused:: Very fond of Duncan, though, and the orgies can't have hurt that.

*shakes head* Yes, I always did wonder at the sheer level of activity during those 5 years. Certainly, not sustainable over the centuries.

And a monastery does seem like an excellent idea, when you put it like that. Actually, you are reminding me of my favorite Joan Didion quote:

An attack of vertigo and nausea does not now seem to me an inappropriate response to the summer of 1968.

(She was covering the Manson trial at the time.)

Yeah, it was a very rough few years, and there's even a comment in a couple first season eps that Duncan's mostly managed to dodge the Game for the last ten years or so (while he was with Tessa); I think the Game caught up with a vengeance, poor man.

And yeah, that's a great quote.

You should add Danny Cimoli (The Immortal Cimoli) to the list of students. And didn't Jean Philippe de LeFaye III (same episode) die in a flashback, instead of in the five-and-a-half-year period you're using?

Yeah, Cimmoli should be there, and probably Claudia, too.

And you're quite right on LaFaye's death; Sorry, I clearly need to edit this post. I started counting students somewhere on my way through, out of curiosity. The other counts are for the duration of the season; the students are meant to be over Duncan's lifetime. My apologies for the confusion.
