Not just Elizabethan lute songs -- songs by what Sting calls the first singer-songwriter who toured Europe! There was a whole thing on Sixty Minutes, I think, yesterday. The Czech lutenist who accompanies him is remarkable, and Sting plays as well. I'm going to find a copy for myself (I like stuff like that and madrigals, etc).

::nodding:: The lutenist is superb, and it's lovely thinking music. I'm about halfway through, and so far I like it.

He talked last night about how the lute is "held to the heart," so it resonates with the heartbeat and the music. Sting says that music is his spiritual practice. Looking forward to listening to it.

It's interesting. *Lovely* counterpoint, but it's... it's something I'll write to, rather than listen to, if you get the distinction.

I keep smiling every time I hear a commercial for the new Sting album -- the song they're using for the commercial is one I used to sing at Ren Faire in madrigals. It sounds odd to me to hear it sung by only one voice.

Definitely going to get that album.

It's an interesting album, with lovely counterpoint, but it's much of a muchness to my ear. I may not know enough/enough about renaissance music to appreciate it, however. Nice for writing to, but not something for listening to, for me at least.
