Meeting Gilbert Blythe

Aug 18, 2008 17:50

I am torturing myself. Just four more days till I can eat regular food, and here I am googling "Brown Rice Sushi in San Francisco".

Argh. I can't wait for Friday. When this will all be over. And my Mom and her new-found sushi making skills will be here.

. . .

To follow-up on last Friday's "Drowsy Chaperone" escapade - there were tickets available, and so I went and watched Jonathan Crombie and his brilliant performance as "Man in the Chair". Although that sounds like not such a good role to be in, he was the narrator for the entire performance and was just brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

To top it all off, while I was waiting for R to pick me up outside the Orpheum, he emerged from the Stage Door. I could not resist, and dug deep into my inner high school fangirl and asked if I can take a photo with him. (I always have a camera. Always.)

He said yes, of course, and "Hi, I'm Jon."

Silly me, I didn't introduce myself because R was going to pull up in front of the theater at any time and I was in a hurry.

I didn't tell him my name, but I managed to say "I am a big Anne of Green Gables fan," "I am going to Prince Edward Island later this year, for the 100th Anniversary of Anne of Green Gables," and "I'm not traveling especially for that, but since my parents live in Nova Scotia, it's not too long of a drive to head out to PEI."

To which he replied "Oh Halifax? I've been there once. And PEI is beautiful. And did you know a new Anne movie is coming out, but none of us will be in it - not me, not Megan (Follows, who played Anne). I heard they'll show Anne as a young girl and an older woman and Barbara Hershey will be in it."

Chatty guy, and totally down to Earth. I love it! I'm socializing with Gilbert Blythe!

He was about to chat some more when my phone rang. It was R. "Where ARE you? I'm in front of the theater!"

"Well, I'll let you answer your phone. It was nice meeting you!"

"It was nice meeting you too!"

And so I ran, giddily to R's car, giggled like a high school fangirl, showed him the photo we took and smiled all the way home.
