Most of us would agree that we have no choice to face what we suffer. Well, others would argue that we have the power to choose our own suffering. But, to their contrary belief, no one really has a choice. Yes, there are exceptions. Take for example, not wanting to wear a coat when it's chilly outside. Well, what do we always say? "Oh, I'll suffer the consequences!" But, there are things that we suffer that are completely out of our hands. Take for example, the Holocaust.
Millions upon millions of people suffered, and even died, due to the Holocaust. How on earth could the Jews choose to suffer that? Why would they want to suffer through that? It was totally beyond their control. They had no idea what was happening. When they did, it was too late to do anything about it. Those who died, died because they couldn't go on any further. However, those who lived, lived because God did not want them yet.
There are so many people out there that are suffering through a ton of difficult things. Some people suffer with abuse. Some people suffer with poverty. Some people suffer with a battle with drugs. What I'm trying to say is that even though a person may do one thing that leads to something bigger, none of us really have a choice as to what we suffer. I've suffered through being abandoned by my parents, and having no one, but my grandparents to raise me. As a child, that was beyond my power to do anything to avoid that kind of situation. If we did have the power to choose our suffering, we'd take the easy way out, and not put ourselves through any pain at all.
So, what's my point? My point is that everything happens for a reason. At some point in our lifetime, we suffer until we can't take anymore, we mourn until there's nothing left to mourn about, we dance until we collapse, we laugh until we cry, and we smile until our cheeks hurt. Whatever happens to us throughout life, we become stronger people. And, that strength that we gain, alone, can get us through anything.
