Let me start out by describing yesterday First, before we get to the shitty part:
i've spent the past 2 weeks gearing up for Mike & Julie's wedding
the wedding was yesterday
it was effing gorgeuous
they got married where my mom & dad got married
haha my partner was dave brown
we had so much fun
we sa'shayed into the reception when we were introduced all dancing like fools
and they kept giving us champagne and beer and wine nonstop
and we all went up on the dancefloor
and danced to every song
the bridesmaids:
me, mandy byer, chrissy hood, kelly haga, shannon, and jodie (julie's sister)
the groomsmen:
dave brown, brian anderson, chris lamb, jon sheckler, kenny hernandez, sam portz
best man: mike granger
maid of honor: kate walsh
danced so much our faces were beet red
we got pictures taken of us on the dance floor every 5 minutes
mandy and I were the only ones on the dance floor most of the time
cause every one was too pussy to dance
SHITTY PART
so my dad picks kelly and I up from the reception cause we were too drunk to drive
and he drops me off at my house
julie & mike were supposed to leave right after the reception for their honeymoon
i get a call at 830pm last night
"candy it's julie. mandy's at shock trauma with a concussion. chris was driving irratically last night, so mandy + sam told him to pull the car over. mandy + sam walked away. chris backed up, hit a stop sign and it fell on mandy's head. she lost so much blood candy so much blood. i tried to get her to keep her eyes open, and sam was kissing her trying to keep her awake. her dress is all bloody.
candy?"
"yeah how do i get to shock trauma?"
we're crying histerical over the phone saying how we just saw her not more than an hour ago
and how she invited me to party after the reception and she was gunna give me a call.
(but real quick, leme explain something. mandy is a tiny tiny girl. she wears a size 14 in little kids, but she's 17! she can't donate blood cause she doesn't weigh enough. she's not even supposed to sit in the front seat of a car b/c she's so tiny.)
i was so worried because of the blood loss and potential brain damage.
so i get off the phone with her, call my dad b.c i'm still in no shape to drive
he offers to take me down there but he won't be to mhy house for antoehter 45 minutes.
so i sit outside on my lawn because i can't stand being in my house all cooped up crying histerically
my neighbor rolls up and says "hey candy how's it going"
and i start to cry again
she sits down and i tell her everything
we talk about the whole event, what led up to it and everything
so my dad shows up
we go to shock trauama
julie + mike tell me this:
"they just let sam up to go see her w/her mom. she has stitches. they had to cut her dress off of her. she lost a lot of blood. we're about to leave because there's nothing we can do. chris was arrested b/c he failed a sobriety test."
mike byers fiance' "but it was an accident"
me "what the fuck shanice??? You're defending a drunk driver who almost killed mandy? what the fuck. chris needs to stay in jail a loooong fucking time. ya know what? i wouldn't shed a tear if his ass got life without parol for this shit."
so i leave the hospital
now wondering when they'll release her
worrying
praying
crying
i just don't see why people drink + drive
do i have to go to congress, and loby to get better laws enacted?
but that won't stop the drunks
it won't intimidate them
first time you drink + drive
3-5 years
that's what it should be
i don't feel as though that would work as a deterrant
what can I do?
email my local senator?
chris is only 19
NOT 21.
the reception hall was definately NOT carding anyone
'specially the bridal party
stricter liquor laws?
enforce carding more?
I don't know
maybe i'm overreacting about lobbying or petioning and it wouldn't
be in mandy's best interest if I did this b/c maybe i'm making things worse by
trying to publicize the event
all i know is that i can't sleep
thinking about people like that on the road
you never think it'll happen to you
you never think it'll happen to your friends
on a day like yesterday
to such a nice person
to such a nice family
