Driving home this morning at my usual pace along IH35 (which I admit is about 5-10 miles over the posted speed limit) I was passed by about twelve cars once I hit the 55mph section between Airport and Riverside. As I reached the 60 mph posted sign under the Riverside overpass, I started watching cars that were in the left lane move over to the middle or the far right. Preferably, I like to stay in the left lane when I'm driving from Round Rock to Slaughter.
As it turns out, there was an Austin Police car driving in the middle lane and he/she must have had his cruise control on; Because, he/she was moving at a steady 58mph. I realized this because evey other car on the highway was getting behind him/her (in the middle or the right lane) and pacing him/her.
Now being that I've been pulled over quite a few times in the last year for being one or two miles over the speed limit, I've gotten used to paying close attention to my speed and developed a healthy respect of Police cars of any kind. I settled in, took a few long deep breaths, and positioned myself to stay relaxed; and, slowly passed the police car at 60mph. At the posted 65mph sign, I kicked my speed up to 65 mph, and gained alot of space between he/she and I.
Twelve to twenty cars, most of those that had passed me on the 55mph stretch, remained behind the police car (which still had its cruise control on) until it got off a few exits later. I laughed because I had it marked out of the corner of my rear view mirror and every other car waited til it had left the highway before picking up their speed to the posted limit.
Otherwise, its been a good day. I'm off for the next two nights. Still have a little work to do here at the house, and have to plan for steam cleaning some time the following weekend. Also, my scheduled first day of renting the apartment is August 6th (a Sunday) after 1 pm, to which I'm going to have to figure out what I'm going to put there first while I continue my stay here. Fortunately, I only have to be at the house sitting job for five more days after I get the apartment; So, I'm thinking I'll move what I have stored here first, then Bastrop when I can arrange to have the truck and get the stuff, and finally, alittle bit from the storage unit every day I have off so I can end the storage renting on August 31st.
Good luck, all!
