Dentist

There's nothing to start out a Friday morning like an emergency trip to the dentist. :)

The tooth got progressively and dramatically worse yesterday, such that I was in so much pain by the evening that I took some freshly-obtained Vicodin to help me sleep. Alas, there is no pain like tooth-pain, and the Vicodin might as well have not existed -- I really couldn't tell I had taken anything at all.

Thus it was that this morning at 7:00 a.m. found me on the phone with my dentist's office.

Receptionist: You're going to think I'm crazy, but can you be here at 8:00 a.m.?
Grubby: I can totally be there at 8:00 a.m.

It turns out that the most recent crown had a bit of extra cement jutting out that was rubbing the tooth next to it. I don't know why it hadn't bothered me for months, and suddenly decided to bother me, but several good things came out of this not being a root canal or an impacted wisdom tooth:

1. The procedure to address this took only minutes
2. They didn't charge me anything, since it was "their" fault
3. The removal of the bit of cement, small and feisty, like Golde Meier but without a balcony, brought a large wave of euphoria over me from the cessation of pain, such that the room began to spin gently

I'm now back in pain, from the procedure and all the swelling from the cement nudging the other tooth, blah blah blah. It's amazing that I can be so achy and sore from this, but there you have it. I'm on Vicodin still/again (with a prescription this time) and penicillin for the next few days.
