..and away we go

Okay - so Ray has thrown in his two cents about the HBO production of GOT.  I'll throw in my buck seventy-five.  First, I kind of liked it overall, but I still had issues.  Not my normal issues, like bad impulse control, a tendency toward violence, general sociopathic behavior, etc.  But issues, you know….

First off, I watch the first episode twice in order to absorb it fully, and last night’s episode just once.  The premiere made me feel rushed a bit and if I was not familiar with the books, I would have had no clue what was going on.  I understand this is only a 12-episode excursion, but could they jam anymore into that first show?  Character development will be lacking a bit, I feel.

They hit the main points, but I wanted more.  I wanted the Bran vs. Tommen sparing match and a confrontation between Rob and sick Joffrey.  They do make Joff look like a punk, but the cockiness is missing a bit, it seems a little forced.  Now, Tyrion slapping him like a bitch was great, but so far he hasn’t given me much.

They didn’t mention Theon in the first two episodes, but he’s there.  I don’t like the look of him, but he’s there.  I also don’t like the look of Sansa; too tall and gangly and pretty much unlikable.  But word on the street is that Arya steals the show, so I have hope.

The Hound so far is poorly cast.  Both he and Cersei are playing their parts with a general malaise I find irritating.  The Hound has no tact, he speaks harsh and direct and is, in general, a dick. A highly skilled dick, but dick non the less.  He is a large, angry man.  This guy seems like a dude bored with his security job at Best Buy.  So far Pesci feels they dropped the ball on one of the best characters in the series.

They also drop the ball on the make-up with both Tryion and the Hound.  These guys are supposed to make people flinch when they look upon them.  The Hound is just a dude with a bad haircut and Tyrion is just a dwarf.  Lame.

Mark Addy as Robert?  Weak.  I used to watch him on that sitcom with Jaime Gertz and just don’t see dude beating ass.  I’m sure there was some bigger, badder, no-namer out there they could have had.  Maybe this is the problem with English actors, too slight of build, I don’t know.  The last big Englishman I remember was the Gentleman Chris Adams from World Class Wresting and he only topped out at 230 pounds, or roughly 100 kg for you Euros.

Don't let the smile fool, he invented the super scissors kick.

No wait - Davey Boy Smith was 253 lbs., but a little shorter than Chris.

Would have been a great Robert - RIP Bulldog.  It's too bad Steve Austin doesn't have a English accent, he would have worked for me.

Anyway, I would have been happy with Sean Bean and Dinklidge, being the only ‘name’ guys out there.  Aren’t you waiting to see Addey hiding in a tent eating candy bars and wrapping cellophane around his midsection?

Jaime is cast pretty well, in an Aaron Eckhart sort of way, but again, still a little off.  I need the more fun loving jackass Jaime and not the hard guy Jaime.

Stay beautiful Aaron.......................................

Come on - Thank you for Smoking

I did appreciate the brief 2-minute Dothraki segments in episode two.  I didn’t need anymore than that.  I wanted the show to stay in Winterfell.  You know, Winterfell for a good bulk of the show and Dany sex scenes thrown in to break up the main programming.  Aaahhhh the Dothraki style, how we missed you.

Viserys is useless so far, I want him to die just because he looks like a puss, but I’m hoping Harry Lloyd has some acting chops when his time comes.

I am with Ray on the Dothraki.  I think they look silly.  There is no continuity in the makeup of the horde.  I know some of the characters are suppose to be slaves, so their race can be mixed, but the actual guys with the blue paint do not seem to go together for the most part.  I just don’t like them right now.  Maybe when the blood warriors come into play, it will pick up.

Anyway, overall it is enjoyable, but it could be tweaked like a nipple for the better.

aaron eckhart, dothraki style, game of thrones, hbo
