this has been one heck of a week! not only did we finally get a painting demonstration in painting class, but we were finally given an assignment... and it couldn't have come at a worse time!
i mean, where was this assignment for the last three weeks when i've been sitting at home staring at the walls over the weekends? i guess it had to arrive at a time to test my metal in the deadline-keeping department of life... in addition to painting five small color roughs of my scribble flower design, i also had a big ad deadline for another client and three HUGE wholesale pattern orders to fill. somehow i made it to now, wednesday night, a day before the next class, having spent my day painting like mad:
the little paintings above reflect five different ways of painting the same thing and also five different color schemes taken from sample fabrics we had purchased and had approved last week as part of our assignment:
of course, this resulted in a number of pitfalls over 6 hours of paint mixing. normally i'm good at this, but i'm not quite used to gouache and i was unsure of how much paint i should have mixed... so i started with big quantities (big mistake)... ran out of paint colors i needed... had to make two emergency trips to the paint store... and after all that, this is what i had to work with:
Needless to say, i didn't get much sewing done this week, but you can see photos of my current muslin (and my current hair color) in the "photos" portion of my blog.
Next week I'll hopefully have more time to paint and fewer deadlines all at once... i'll need all the time i can get, as the next painting is about 8 times larger than those shown above!!
