Just Dance
Haven't written in months and now I'm writing twice in one day, three times in one week...
Emily and I finally mustered up the courage to dance again. We did some research online and decided to try an intermediate modern class at The Dance Complex in Cambridge. We got a little lost so we were nervous we were going to be late and literally sprinted down Central Square but luckily we made it just in time. The class was taught by Danny Swain himself, the artistic director of the Danny Swain Dance Company. There were only about ten people there, so at the beginning Em and I were a little nervous that we were dancing amongst all company members and that we would be singled out with corrections, etc. But the class ended up being the perfect level - not too hard, but definitely not too easy either. It was fun! And not that expensive either - all the classes at The Dance Complex range from $12-$14 I think, which is great. Danny Swain was really nice and funny, and it was his birthday so he kept making senior moment jokes. And, completely random... Sue from Dan's new group at work was taking the class. Dan always told me that this girl Sue in his group danced all the time and that I should get in touch with her...but how random that she was in the first class I actually tried to go to! She came up to me in the middle of the class and introduced herself.
It just felt so good to MOVE again. And stretch. And just to let everything out. I did feel a bit rusty after not having danced in... a year and a half! That's the longest I've ever gone without dancing since I was four years old, which is pretty crazy if you really think about it. I already feel sore, which is great, and I just felt content after finishing the class. I definitely want to try more classes at this place. I didn't realize that all sorts of instructors and companies rent out the studio space to teach their classes there, so it's not limited to just one type of dance or one specific dance company.
