I got into a car accident last night. This just reaffirms my position that people over 75 shouldn't be allowed to drive, least of all at night. What happened was I was cruising north on A1A in the left lane, and this lady is pointed south in the turning lane, prepared to turn left. And so she pulls out right in front of me, I honk, brake, swerve, but still managed to take out her back bumper with my right fender and tire. So I pull over and call the cops, and since even after I jogged back and didn't see her, reported it as a hit and run (in reality she was just sitting in her hotel parking lot like a dumbass). And of course since the area I was in was out of Indialantics jurisdiction, and before Indian Harbours, the State Troopers (i.e. one of the few branches of law enforcment that has something better to do) had to come. Which took an hour. So I filed the report, put on my spare, and drove it home, squeaking like a bitch. About a half hour later the officer shows up at my door and says he found the car, gives me her information and a copy of the citation that was issued.

So now I have spend a few hours on the phone with insurance companies and body shops. On the plus side I might be able to score a new paint job out of it, which is something I've been wanting to do anyway. Her insurance company also pays for a rental car, so I'm going to try and get something badass like a Sebring.
