So I guess I'll start with a bit of an overview that isn't necessarily tied to any particular game. This may be a bit random.
Cool stuff that I saw or random things worth mentioning:
The most bad ass gaming table in existence:
The SultanAnd only costing $10k. This is pretty much the end-all be-all of gaming tables. Will I ever own one? doubtful. But it's nice to think I might one day have the money to blow on a $10000 gaming accessory.
The Gary Gygax Memorial Dice collection: Everyone was encouraged to throw in one of their dice into the 4 foot tall d20 which was auctioned off at the end of the Con, meant to raise money for one of Gygax's favorite charities.
IIXII The Continuum booth: Ok, this booth wasn't particularly cool in and of itself. I was walking around, saw it and the two girls they had dressed up as characters for the game. Didn't really pay attention a whole lot, until I noticed one of them intensely checking me out. Unfortunately not so much in the "You. Clothes off now!" kinda way, but in trying to figure something out. I figured she was trying to read my
shirt, but then she said "Jacques!?". Threw me completely off guard (apparently she was trying to read my name-tag). I kinda stared at her for a second... "Amy!?..." Turns out this hot redheaded nightelf type character was actually one of my old coworkers from the Alzheimer's Association. Small world.
The Art Show: I was actually really impressed with the amount of amazing artwork there. Everything from some pretty standard stuff to the gorgeous work featured in the latest D&D works. My primary stop however was the
Tarnished Images booth. There I finally got to meet Ruth Thompson. A couple weeks prior at the Bristol Renaissance Faire, while visiting her booth there, I realized that her art was the perfect choice of style for the tattoo I've been wanting. So I talked to her about the idea and she loved it. Unfortunately, if I want the original commissioned pieces, it'll cost me a few thousand dollars, so it might be a while. I did mention the possibility of letting her keep the originals, which she said she usually doesn't do, but because she liked the idea so much, she didn't seem to be completely against the idea. It'll still probably be another few years before I get the tattoos, but I've always said that I want to have the idea for one in my head for at least two years before I actually get it to make sure I'm not going to change my mind.
The Rose Song Tshirts: There are a lot of tshirts being sold at GenCon, but it's very rare that I find a shirt that I feel I have to buy (usually for someone else). This was one of those cases. I'd mention details here, but it'd be spoiling it for someone this weekend. They had a special, so I picked up a couple shirts for myself as well:
Iron Man and
Old School Gamer. I'll post a link to the other shirt after this weekend. ;-)
