So some of you know that I've been getting into the
Earthdawn setting more and more recently. I've even picked it up as a GM just to get back into the game. It's a game that I've been a big fan of, both mechanics, system, and setting, for a while now. All three of these are unique, and enjoyable.
The original game was produced by
FASA, who also created the game
Shadowrun. After FASA stopped producing things for a while, another company,
Living Room Games started producing a 2nd Edition to Earthdawn, which many fans picked up because it was something new in the ED world which had been non-existant for a while. From what I've heard, it pretty much sucked. They changed the way things worked to their detriment, and made some plot-line changes which many people didn't particularly approve of. LRG, while it still exists, has been inactive for over a year now.
Within the past few years, however, another company,
Red Brick Ltd., has picked up the reins. Both companies have their license through FASA, but are seperate braches. Anything published by LRG is essentially ignored by RBL. Red Brick not only has the license to re-release old FASA books, but is also continually producing new source and game material, with an
active community.
Long story short, after spending time on the forums, and having made an inquiry a few months back, I have been invited to join the development team for Red Brick, working on Earthdawn. This now means that I have access to un-released material for editing, review, etc. It also means that I get books from them for free/at cost.
