While the soundtrack is a little over-powering at times (why make an original score when you can play familiar songs REALLY LOUD), Watchmen didn't suck. It reeeeeally didn't suck.
They changed quite a few fight scenes to make them bloodier and more vicious, and I kind of wish they had stuck to the original fight scene in a particular Rorschach moment. And Dan was a little too bad ass once he put on the costume. But out of the costume, he was better than I expected.
But, it's far better than the ending I've heard rumors about, that apparently one of the earlier, failed incarnations of the movie was planning. Our heroes were going to shove a rifle through a time portal and kill Manhattan before he got his powers. One day, I'll draw how that scene goes in my head, because I crack up everytime I think of it. Adorable, dorky, pre-Manhattan scientist, in the chamber, wishing a beautiful woman would pass him a cold beer, staring at the broken watch. Then, rifle. A brief moment of "huh?" then Ker-POW.
