Thoughts and Questions from a newbie! (About Grindeldore)

Apr 05, 2011 21:05

Okay. Let me just start by saying how jealous I am of all of you here that were present during JK Rowling's outing of Dumbledore. I just finished reading that thread and, even though I'm 3 years late to this fandom, I was jumping up and down in happiness. That thread is definitely a classic thread for many newbies to this pairing, like myself. So I want to thank all of you for that.

Anyway, so I have heard about Harry Potter in the past but never read it due to High School being busy and stuff. I was always interested in it though due to its popularity but didn't do anything until I decided early this year to purchase all the books. I finished reading all 7 books recently without reading any spoilers online. I didn't even know JK Rowling outed Dumbledore until I read about it in this community. The first thing I did was google "Dumbledore Grindelwald" and it led me to this website.

While I was reading Death Hallows,I was pretty shocked at how obvious it was written that Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald. And that they had a relationship that was not just a friendship, but lovers. I see them as lovers. (At least during that short summer).

The thought of Dumbledore and Grindelwald being lovers actually first sprung into my mind when I read this in the book: "both such brilliant young boys, they got on like a cauldron on fire". That was when I started realizing something was up.

But anyway, I have a few questions to ask though because I really want to hear everyone's opinions on them. I would really appreciate it if you take the time to respond to these because I have been very obsessed with this pairing ever since reading Death Hallows and I think hearing other peoples' opinions will make me understand more, especially since most of you have been shipping this pair for years.

My questions that I have for you:

1. JK Rowling revealed that Dumbledore was gay and fell in love with Grindelwald. So we know that is CANON. But do you think Grindelwald returned those feelings? I would like you to answer this answer in three ways.

a) Did Grindelwald had romantic feelings for Dumbledore during those two months when they were together in the summer of 1890? (Was GG just using AD? Or was GG infatuated with AD as well?)

b) Do you think Grindelwald yearn/misses Dumbledore during their time apart? The period before they had their "duel"? I mean, they must have easily gotten information about each other due to the newspapers and the media. So maybe that's how they got to learn more about each other? (Even though Grindelwald was mostly becoming a dark wizard.)

c) Did Grindelwald come to realize that his one true love was Dumbledore during his time in Nurmengard? (I personally think this is the most POSSIBLE because like Harry said, " or maybe from breaking into your tomb?"  and when Dumbledore heard it, tears came out. )

2. Did they had sex during those two summer months?  I really believe that they had sex. Even if Grindelwald only did it because he wanted Dumbledore on his side. Rowling has revealed that Grindelwald was dazzled by Dumbledore when they met. She also said that he would have done anything that Dumbledore wanted to have him on his side. I really believe that Rowling was hinting that Grindelwald had sex with Dumbledore because he wanted his affection so he could stay by his side.

3. Did Dumbledore continue to LOVE Grindelwald till the end?

4. Do you think Dumbledore and Grindelwald met at the King's Cross Station? Many speculate that the King's Cross Station is a place where the dead go to take the train to the other side. Do you think Dumbledore may have waited for Grindelwald after he heard from Harry that he died protecting his tomb? Maybe the two reconciled afterall?

The following are important quotes that I think supports the "mutual attraction" between these two men. (IMO).  (Like a reference of this post)

On page 716 (DH35, U.S. hardcover ed.), Dumbledore says, "If the plans we were making came to fruition, all my dreams would come true."

"Perhaps that lie to Voldemort was his attempt to make amends . . . to prevent Voldemort from taking the Hallow . . .”
“. . .or maybe from breaking into your tomb?” suggested Harry, and Dumbledore dabbed his eyes.

"...Looking after Ariana took a backseat then, while they were hatching all their plans for a new Wizarding order, and looking for Hallows, and whatever else it was they were so interested in."

"You needed something to keep you going for the next 10 years! ...Oh, my god, the fan fiction now, eh?" (I interpret this as JKR accpeting "Grindeldore") - JK Rowling 2007

"in the seventh book - he has, what I think a child would read as an intense friendship, a friendship through which he is lead astray, but which for me was always an infatuation. But Dumbledore meets this handsome, his dark twin in a sense, and he’s a very charismatic, brilliant young man. And whether or not that relationship was physically consummated or not I think is irrelevant, it’s actually about love. And I think that the sensitive, maybe sophisticated adult reader could see that Dumbledore, who had been a very, you know, a very moral student, a model student up to that point, who goes so wildly off the rail suddenly, to think "yeah, genocide, that’ll work !". You know - what did he feel for this person ? Well, as for me, it’s a step beyond friendship. And I think that a person of Grindelwald’s type would have exploited that being as it is." - JK Rowling 2008

" Grindelwald would be as dazzled by Dumbledore as Dumbledore was by him, because he would see in Dumbledore, 'My God, I never knew there was someone as brilliant as me, as talented as me, as powerful as me. Together, we are unstoppable!' So I think he would take anything from Dumbledore to have him on his side." JK Rowling 2010

It seems like JKR gives us more new info about the pair EVERY year so I hope in the near future, she tells us more about that summer. I'm optimistic. From what I have read in Book 7 and from JKR's quotes, I can definitely sense that they were each others' TRUE LOVE. The way I interpret GG's feelings is that he thinks he was just using and manipulating AD while the whole time GG  was falling in love with AD without noticing it. He may have figured it out when they dueled because it was said that he basically just gave up the fight. (I wish we know more about the duel. Even thought it was the most spectacular duel in history, it seems the books don't mention it that much.)

Anyway, thanks for reading this post and I hope to hear from you! (Even though I'm 3 years late. But I still feel like I have a connection with all of you after reading the posts here!)
