I really enjoyed the lectures this week and the tutorials went fine. I didn't get much more touring done, since I was consumed in research most of the time, but I did a little yesterday. My tutorials were finished at 1 o'clock, so after lunch, I went to explore a new part of town. I found a cemetery that wasn't that old (c. 1850s), but I thought it was interesting because almost everything was overgrown except a mown path to walk along. I happened upon the botanical gardens, and I found out I'm a bit frightened of some plants. The grounds were beautiful, and they had some enormous rhubarb in the middle of a pond. IN the green houses I felt nervous, though. Jungle-ish vines and huge leaved things always make me think a giant bug - or the plant itself - will come out and eat me. But there were a lot of neat things to see past the vines, so my stomach didn't tie itself up for no reason. I also found the "cheap" part of towen. It may not have been as pretty as the shops on High Street, but I found a thrift shop & a couple other grocery stores. I picked up a sweater that matched everything I have here, but at the drinks party, I promptly spilled red wine all over it. We'll see if it comes out, if not, there goes £1.
The drinks party was fun, and I had more to drink at the college bar. [edited to maintain the policy "what happens in Oxford stays in Oxford." Not so much for myself, but for the privacy of others.]
