Day 2 - July 1

We awaken at day break. Bodies a bit sore from the first day of travel. We pack up camp and head for the road. We find a little cafe on the outshirts of gold bar where we have a warm meal and review map on our progress and plan for the day. We chit chat with those around telling them of our endeavours. After our meal we say our goodbyes and head eastward on HWY 2.

Our bodies adjusting to the trek, we face starts of blisters and sore backs from the heavy 50piund packs. After some time we stumble across the almost world famous cafe, general store and post office of Baring. As we enter it remembers me of sam druckers establishment in TV show green acres. We were greeted by a tall husky man who introduced himself as Bear. He is the properitior of this fine establishment and wears many hats in this tiny mountian community. For lunch he recommends the poorboi sandwach and some potato salad which the reciepe was past down from his great grandmother. all was was excellent. If you every are traveling on hwy 2 and run across this town you must stop in and say hi to bear and try this lunch. We rested for a bit and talked about out project. He give us tips on mountain travel. After finishing a meal I purchased a postcard which i sent to my mother for i promised her at varies stops i would send one out so she could experience the trip with us in a manner of speaking.

We once again began on our way down the long strech of mountian hwy. On foot you have much time to truly enjoy the gifts that nature has given to us. We were able to take many pics that we post to www.myspace.com/postivesteps .

As we walk down the road i try to reterive some messages on my blackberry which seems to be freezing up. I am unable to use any function on my device, so we decide to call customer service on marks phone. After some trouble shooting they recommended jsut stopping in a tmoble store and having it looked at, well great idea i say, i bet there are plenty of them up here in the mountains as i laugh to myself. Well anyways i think, nothign we can do about it right now, so lets move forward for our trek.

The sky begins to cloud, and i know we are getting close to our stop for the night in the town of Skykomish. I start to hear thunder in the back ground and fear we might not be able to make it and prob should find some shelter for the eve with a storm approaching.

A mile up ahead I see Money Creek Camp Site. We enter into the camp site and check out fees. A nice old caretaker couple pulls up in a truck and asked if we are looking for a site for the night and we reply Yes.

We pay them the fee and and they direct us to our campsite for the eve. As we are setting up tent the bus are eatting us a live. The lady asked if we had bug repellent, no we do not we we replied. "well I will be right back" she said as she jumped in the truck and left her hubby to visit with us. She returned with a bowl filled with listeren. "trust me" she says " this does work" we instructed us and watched as we rubbed the mouth wash in our hair and on all of our exposed body. We thanks them and they went about on their rounds.

Night was approaching and I thought it would be nice to warm by a fire. Our bones are chilled form them cool mountain mositure n the air. I get a small fire going which soon went out. Most it produced was smoked. That was fine, at that time i started to feel drops of rail begin to fall. We retreated to the tent for shelter. I laid there working on my journal thinking to myself "Well being with out a shower for the few days i hope i do not have much body order, and if so at least now it is masked by the scent of listeren and smoke." The rain strated to pick up and the lighten and thunder approached louder and brighter.

During the evening I aoke to bright lighten flashed and thunder that shook the ground. I prayed our little tent would stand up through this nights storm. I alid hoping the storm would subdue by morning since we had no rain gear for the the journey. Finally I drifted off to a deep sleep.

positive steps, hiv
