So the good news is that I got into all the classes I wanted for next year!
Here they are:
MA126 Calculus 1
PS308 Comparative Politics: Russia
MU199 Pre-Theory
HY279 Europe from 1848 to 1914
CL111 Latin for Beginners
CL101 Greek for Beginners
Calc is going to be good just to get it under my belt and to get rid of one of my requirements.
Comparative Politics: Russia during second block will FINISH MY MINOR.
Pre-Theory is going to be fun just because I'm just starting to study music and I want to know more!
Let me just say that Dennis Showalter (the man teaching "Europe from 1848 to 1914") is the top WWII historian in the country, he was the president of the Association of Military Historians for five(5!) years. Not that I'll be talking about WWII in the class, but he's a great resource for me since we all know I'm a history buff, especially when it comes to WWII.
Also, Latin (which I've always wanted to learn but never had the opportunity) and Greek (which is so close to Russian I see no reason to avoid it) are going to be amazing! But, taking both of those means that I will have a whole semester of ancient languages. Latin is blocks 5-6 and Greek 7-8: I may indeed be admitted to a mental institution by the end of next year. It will be intense, but damn if I'm not excited about it!
That's the good news. Let's move on to the uncertain-but-not-bad news...
So I'm looking for a room to sublet down here during the summer so I can work full-time and get out on my own (relatively speaking). I have some contact numbers and e-mails and will be taking care of that tomorrow. If I do get a sublet here then I will most likely be working for Paul full-time, except during one summer block when I hope to be taking a mythology class. If I can't work for Paul, then I will most definitely be working at the Help Desk here at the college. Also, after a fiasco with the FinAid people, I have finished my loan stuff and the funds should be disbursed in the next few days.
So on to the bad news...
Kerensky (laptop), and Comrade Lenin (iPod), are dying. Kerensky is only just working well enough to let me use Firefox, nothing more. Vladimir Ilyich, however, is bedridden indefinitely. Kerensky is being very slow about everything, won't let me open some programs (and those he does allow take forever to open, let alone to run), and won't even run any of my spyware/virus protection programs! Comrade Lenin has decided that all of his files are corrupt and he will not work, under any circumstances. Have tried the suggested reformatting and such but even that isn't working.
So great, my laptop (who wasn't going with me anyway) and my iPod (who was an integral part of my survival and even class in Russia) have both crapped out on me less than ten (10!) days before I leave the country. I would like to point out a couple things:
1) That I am thoroughly irritated, beyond the other things I have to deal with like people, class, summer plans, and the desire to strangle, maim, disfigure, or otherwise inconvenience a couple of kids upstairs.
2) That while I've been talking about getting a Macbook for some time now, I have neither the time nor the money to purchase one right now.
3) That the warranty on my iPod ran out about three weeks ago.
And 4) That Kerensky has been exiled because of his leadership in the interim government and Lenin is on his deathbed. This does not bode well for the Motherland...
So yes, update, and now I'm off to bed so I can get up tomorrow and listen to Bach's "Mass in b minor" and start writing my paper about fugues...
