At the Exploritorium, there is a small little exhibit where they put 3-5 zebra fish inside a li'l habitat, inside a vertically striped drum. You can control the speed of the drum, and they'll constantly try to keep pace with the particular stripe, maintaining its relative distance. It'll always keep pace with the velocity of the stripe they're next to.
That being said, I've noticed it a lot while driving. People become what I call "Fish Brained", similar to lizard brained, but kinda more annoying.
You may have noticed that when you go to pass someone on the freeway, they speed up, as if blocking your way. Yes, sometimes they're really doing that to be an ass, but about 70-80% of the time, it's because they're attempting to follow that stripe.
Had a Yaris pull that while on the Richmond Bridge, I went to pass someone goin' 45-55, and they sped up and hung in my blind spot at my passing speed, obviously oblivious. I slowed down, and sped up in a 5mph range... eventually I just hit the brakes and let the idiot pass me, only he then slowed down to his original speed, so I had to pass him again.
This happens a LOT though. They're not being purposefully annoying, just zoning out.
