Hey animal lovers!

When Chris and I were apartment hunting we ran across one place that pissed us off so royally, I had to tell my friends about these people, in hopes that we could communicate with them enough to get a change made.

Under their policy it is stated that 'All cats must be declawed.'

How many cat lovers are on this site? Now how many of you think declawing is a *completely* inhumane and cruel practice that impairs the cat's mobility, puts it at risk of infection, and leaves it with no natural defense if it gets outside? I'm guessing those numbers are pretty close to even.

We walked out of there, after I left them a nasty note, but I'm not going to stop there. I want them to change that policy. It's cruel and needless, and done for the pocketbooks of the higher-ups who think that will keep repair costs down.

If you want to contact the apartment complex itself, here is their website, and there's a comment feature. And here's the number for their corporate office: 952-884-2709.

Apparently, the company president is under the impression that the Texas Apartment Association suggests the declawing policy, and the apartment complex just printed off the form and added their name to it - now, that's bullshit, because I've lived in apartments in Texas for about five years now and have never encountered that policy before. Also, his statement about, 'Well, we've incurred thousands of dollars in damage because of cats blahblahblah' pissed me off to no end. So I'm calling the TAA. I suspect he's passing the buck on this.

Dallas Tenant Council: 214-823-2733. They're really super nice, and confirmed that the Corporate Asshat I talked to was flat-out lying to me about it being a Texas policy. She put a note in her files on the complex, in case anybody called her for a reference on them - she agrees that it's an inhumane and terrible policy. She also referred me to some other places I can get the word out.

These bastards are going down. I'll update when I know more.
