I've been intending to watch Kino no Tabi (Kino's Journey) for a long time. I'd seen the first episode when it was originally being fansubbed, but it didn't hook my interest then. However, I'd heard a lot of good things about it so when I saw that I could get it, I decided why not?
For the past three days or so I've been watching it and now that I've finished it, I can say I loved it. I'll also say I think it's a moral and ethical mindfuck, but in a good way. I applaud the way that Kino and the anime appears to me not to judge things. I definitely had opinions about the things shown happening in the countries, but they were colored by my own morals. Kino gets 100 points for being very cool, too, and cool headed. I'm not sure whether you could say Kino is a good or a bad person and I really like that. Kino is her own person and that's the really poignant thing. (But why does she look so young? Any one know how old Kino is?)
I'm not sure Kino no Tabi is for everyone, but if you like struggling with morals and why people do the things they do, definitely give it a watch. Although its a very episodic anime, I found myself wanting to continue watching episode after episode. Kino no Tabi definitely ranks up there with my favorite short series (only 13 episodes) and rivals or even matches my love for Haibane Renmei.
Has anyone read the novel(s)? I'm curious if more of Kino's past is ever divulged.
