I wasn't going to watch "Invincible Youth" but then I was curious to glimpse all the groups' dorms and so I watched it anyway.
I didn't find it particularly captivating--although Goo Hara made me LOL like it was nobody's business when she was dancing for the country crowd--but I will say that it highlights what I like about Sunny. Sunny does what needs to be done when it needs to be done. Whether it was cleaning out the hen coop and catching one for dinner (and she's done it before for another variety show, though LOL how she was like "Grab it, grab it, grab it!" to the member she was working with) or picking up a snake and draping it artfully despite her fear because no one else on her team was going to do it in "Factory Girl," Sunny steps up in this very calm, controlled way. She may act like the maknae and ooze aegyo, but Sunny has some backbone, man.
As for the dorms, the members of Secret (who?) seem to all sleep in one bedroom while BEG's Narsha was passed out in this big bed in a single bedroom (I wonder if, because they're older, the BEG members have their own separate apartments). Kara's Nicole was cute in how she got up to pack a breakfast/meal for Goo Hara, while the duckie eye mask someone had was extremely cute! You can tell that of the groups, SNSD was the most prepared because YuRi seems to have slept in TaeYeon's bed so that the invading camera crew wouldn't disturb the other sleepers when they came to pick up her and Sunny (short duo are roommates) and they were the only two who were already wearing make up. That's hardcore. They definitely passed out in the bus, though, lol.
The impression I got from the tiny bit we got to see of SNSD's dorm was nice. Did you see how tall that door leading into Short Duo's room was (and the nice little plaque on it)? Sunny or TaeYeon joked that the two small ones use the smallest room and there was a good amount of space between the two beds. (Tiffany's is the smallest room but that's a single.) Their hallway has room for their huge group portrait to be on the wall and underneath it one of those decorative half-tables with some nice candle holders. I wonder since Jessica described their living room as big if they actually got a couch set for it.
Also, OMG, did you see how many crew and staff people were with the IY group? You can see everyone from the camera staff to the makeup people to probably managers milling about when the camera panned at one point. I was like, "Hot damn."
Top Chef: Jennifer, why are you imploding? Teddy Bear (seriously, I just want to give Kevin hugs and have him cook delicious pork dishes for me), what went so wrong this week? I want to see you two make it far! Don't let me down~~~ Although with next week's guest judge being vegan Natalie Portman, I'm not sure how anyone is going to fare. Even the Top Chef Masters had some trouble with vegan guest Zooey Deschanel.
Glee: I have to say that I like Mark Salling's (Noah Puckerman) singing voice more than I like Cory Monteith's (Finn). I kind of realized late that I'm not a big fan of Monteith's voice. Sorry. And they're really making Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester) dance a lot, aren't they? And . . .
"Thong Song"? OMG, this song came out 10 years ago?!?!?! Wow. Well,
"Bust a Move" is 20 years old, so I guess they were moving toward more modern later in the episode, lol. I love the range of music Ryan Murphy is drawing from.
I also kind of had a marathon viewing of all the BTS web exclusives over at
Hulu. Too much fun. Jane Lynch continues to prove why she is awesome (I'm sad people don't recognize her from previous works like Best in Show or even saying equally ridiculous things in Role Models) and I was like "?!" when Lea Michele revealed that she'd known Jenna Ushkowitz since she was eight. Whut? And they ended up in Spring Awakening together? Huh. Then again, I was surprised when I learned that Ushkowitz had also come from Broadway, probably because her character Tina hasn't been spotlighted like Rachel or Mercedes in the vocal department. The whole young part of the cast was cute in New York as they all videotaped their adventures.
Oh, and yay! Quinn is wearing regular clothes now! But she really needs to decide who she wants to sex her up. Well, I think we do know who she wants to sex her up but she needs to decide who she wants to be with for realz.
YAY! Madonna has granted "Glee" rights to her entire music catalogue! I am a shameless fan of old Madonna and can dig the dance-y beats in her less impactful new stuff. I can't decide what song I'd want to hear/see more: "Like a Prayer," "Like a Virgin," "La Isla Bonita," "Papa Don't Preach" (Quinn!--though that storyline might be gone by next year), "Take a Bow," "You'll See," "Lucky Star," "Dress You Up," "Material Girl," "Who's That Girl," "Vogue," "Express Yourself," "Human Nature" (Finn and Rachel with their UST or Schuester and Emma with their UST? Or Puck being an asshole and annoying everyone?), "Power of Goodbye"--oh man, with an entire Madonna-themed episode, they have so much to choose from! !!!!
Madonna 80s Megamix, peoples! And
another with a wider spectrum. Really, there can't be enough Madonna megamixes in the world.
Oh, Madonna, you truly
brought in-your-face sex to the music stage . . . for better or worse.
