In which Alec tries to get Ben to come home

Alec waited until his mom had left for the grocery story. She said she was going to get something for dinner but he was afraid she was just going to come with more cleaning supplies. As soon as Lisa's car had turned the corner Alec marched out the front door, across the street and to Sarah's front door where he knocked firmly. He'd start his search here and expand as needed.

The Harvey's had gone away on a long weekend, at least Mr and Mrs. had, taking the younger daughter with. Sarah was home alone... though not really. Currently she was on the couch in Ben's arms, watching a movie.

When the door was knocked on, they both sat up. Ben gave her a look and she held a finger to her lips, then got up and made her way to the front door while Ben turned off the television and made his way into hiding in the closet between the kitchen and den.

She opened the door and leaned in the doorway. "Hey Alec, what's going on?"

Alec stepped up closer to her. "Hey." He raised an eyebrow. "Don't suppose my brother's here?"

She shook her head. "Sorry, haven't seen him."

The air from inside was creating a tiny breeze as it escaped her house to the larger world. Right bast his kitty nose. His head tipped and he breathed in through his nose and considered her for a long moment. "Then you must like blindfolds. Can I talk to him please?"

She watched him a moment, then rolled her eyes. "Fine, he was here, but he's not anymore. How do you do that, anyway?"

Alec leaned in a little closer, invading her personal space a little. No, Ben was still there. "It's a gift. Dude, seriously. I know he's still here so just let me in all right?"

"You know what... no. He came here because your family freaked out at him and I'm not going to let you into MY house..."

Ben appeared around the corner, having heard Alec's voice, and not his parents. "Sarah, it's fine."

Something in Alec melted when he actually laid eyes on his brother. He knew, intellectually, that Ben was fine, but that did nothing to quiet the instinct that was chasing it's tail in his head. "Thank fucking Christ."

Sarah rolled her eyes and let Alec in, closing the door behind him. Ben didn't move from his spot on the wall, obviously not at crazy about seeing Alec as Alec was him. "What do you want, Alec?"

"You to come home?"

Ben snorted. "Not happening."

"At least call."

"Why?"

"Because Mom and Dad are freaking out?" Alec leaned back again the wall he was near.

"I'd lick a toilet bowl. That's how clean the house is. Dad's watching Mom's chick flicks every time she puts one on."

"Maybe they need a little scare," Ben said.

Alec looked away then. "Well you win because you've given them three."

"How?" Ben wasn't believing it

"The thing with the car that started all of this. Come on, think about how Dad grew up. He knew car safety before he knew how to write his own name." He shifted and hunched his shoulders a little. This wasn't any of Sarah's business, but he'd put it all out there in front of her if he had to.

"Yeah, and I was safe. I didn't drink that much. And I really doubt Dad can tell me he's never had a beer or two and then gotten on the road."

"Maybe he has, but if his dad didn't bitch him out then he was a shitty father."

Ben shook his head. "You know what, I don't know why you're taking their side on this. You're supposed to be my brother and we stick together. How many times have I saved your ass?"

And then Alec looses his cool a bit, audience or no. "You said you wished I'd never showed up!"

"I never said that." Ben stated. "Why the hell would you think that?"

"You said you wished Dad had never come back."

"Yeah, I know what I said."

"Did you forget that he's the one that brought me home?
