In which Abby and Sam pick up an old pasttime.

“You’re rusty.”

Sam jumped back to miss the swipe of the blade, before giving her a bit of a look. She was teasing, and he knew it, but she also knew that that didn’t mean he liked it any. “Sorry. We don’t exactly have use for swords up here.” He started to take the offensive, charging her back through the now empty living room, after they moved all the furniture out of the way. She took the defensive with a laugh, just leaning back with the blows as she stepped back through the room.

“Still,” she flicked his sword out of the way and tapped against his chest lightly with a bit of a smirk. “No reason to get out of practice.”

The apartment they were living in now was larger than the one he had originally gotten himself, once they started to combine incomes. She went back to doing what she was good at-tracking down occult objects and selling them to the highest bidder, and those bids were quite high. It was enough for them to be comfortable, and that was what she wanted for them more than anything else. For him to be comfortable in the new world he had to live in. It took them some time to get there, but they did, and Abby wasn’t going to question it.

Sam smirked back at her slightly, before batting the rapier away. “You know, we used to do this with real swords.”

“Well, these are a bit less dangerous, yeah?” She smirked back at him, before moving in closer again. “Considering you’re still rusty.”

When she was close enough, his hand snapped out, grabbing the wrist of her sword arm before yanking her closer, sliding an arm around her waist and keeping her close. “If I remember correctly, I usually got bored with this pretty quickly and wanted to move on to other things.”

“And that would be why it took you over fifty years to actually get any good at it,” she teased, looking up at him with bright eyes. He grinned back at her, before leaning in to kiss her, waiting for her to drop her sword before sliding his other arm around her and pulling her closer. After a moment he started to turn her towards the couch they had pressed against the wall, backing them towards it. He started to lower her slowly to the couch before breaking the kiss to look at her.

“I do appreciate that you took the time to teach me,” he began slowly, moving his lips to her neck as he leaned his weight into her gently. “Even though I tended to distract you more often than not.”

“Like you’re distracting me now,” she said, tilting her head back as she slid her arms around Sam’s shoulders.

“Exactly,” he said with a nod, before leaning in to kiss her again, starting to make quick work of their clothing. “I always loved the way you handled a sword.” She could hear the subtle, double-edged tone to his words and she couldn’t help but smile as he kissed her again, just relaxing back against him, and letting herself enjoy the ride. They were warm, comfortable, and happy with each other, and Abby didn’t see that end of things changing anytime soon.

It was what they had earned, after all.
