Zola melted my heart about 100 times in this chapter! :'') I think Meredith did an awesome job explaining adoption to her in a way a toddler would understand, and making sure she knew that her parents love her just as much as they love her little sister. It would be great to see a moment like this on the show. It's so important, especially now that another baby is on the way, and Zola is obviously going to have a ton of questions.

I also really enjoyed reading Derek taking Zola and Sofia to the playground. No one can ever take Mark's place as Sofia's dad, but for Derek to step in and be the best uncle he can to her is exactly what Mark would have wanted. The girls playing together was so sweet!

I liked your take on what they did with the money, too. (Honestly, I much prefer this than having Jackson put in charge like Shonda did, which I think is kind of silly and contrived.) Like Mer said, SGH is more than just the place where they work, so they deserve to have a say in how it's run.

So excited for baby sister! I can't wait! :)

You hit on so many great themes - Mark, Derek stepping in to play "Daddy" to Sofia, Zola with Derek (made of win) and Meredith explaining how she became their baby, complete with Derek's revelation that she was to be their baby! I also like your version of how they help the hospital better than Shonda's. Wonderful work!

This chapter might have been one of my favorite things ever to write, for all the reasons that you pointed out. I wanted to give Zola some alone time with Mama and Daddy before Baby Sister makes her appearance. There are just so many things I want to see on screen that I know we'll probably never see...so I wrote a few of them. I am so glad you liked them too.

Finally getting around to leave a comment. After reading this chapter once more and being close to tears once more as well. Zola's "I wanted to be in your belly, too" almost broke my heart. You're doing such a wonderful thing writing her and Sofia in all their typical 3yo antics. Loved the brain freeze ;-)

It was so nice to see some Shepherd family time and I'm very much looking forward to meet Baby (in the next chapter?). I know the girls playing Zola (and Sofia) on the show are too young probably to really act, so we won't see dialogues likes this on TV and that's all the more reason to be grateful to you for writing this.

I also liked your solution to the "how do we use the money to help the hospital" dilemma. Like you said in another reply, much less flashy, but IMHO much more realistic. And it doesn't include Cathrine Avery for which I'm forever grateful :-)

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! As I said to someone else, this chapter might be one of my all-time favorite things to write. I loved getting to explore stuff that should SO happen on the show but probably never will. Part of it is because, yes, the girls are so little and too young to really act, but a lot of it is just a general unwillingness to give them any meaningful screen time ( ... )
