Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friends friends, or just random journals, or [info]holiday_wishes/[info]wish_list) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
For Christmas, I wish for:
1) $500 to transfer my RI license to Mass, which involves paying off some ancient (1993-4) excise tax and parking tickets (that I didn't know I had), as well as the license fee itself.
2) My own place here in Mass.
3) For my SSI to come through, so I can get #2. Prayers or spells for this will be more than welcome as gifts.
4) A sweet LOTR fic, Frodo-centric and happy. I miss LOTR fic.
5) A tarot reading or other divination, to see if things will get better, or what I can do to make/help things get better.
6) A New Doctor Who-LOTR crossover fic. Ninth, Tenth or Eleventh Doctor, your choice.
7) Fuzzy, funky colored socks. Email greyladybast at yahoo dot com for mailing address.
8) A Macbook, loaded with Adobe Creative Suite, Office 2010. Autodesk Architecture and Revit and anything else a budding artist/interior designer needs would be nice, though I don't exactly expect such a thing.
9) Colored tissue paper, glue sticks, and white cardboard or Bristol paper, so I can get into tissue paper collages. Email greyladybast at yahoo dot com for mailing address.
10) Perfume. Caswell Massey's lily of the valley, Jovan White Musk, plain ol' Charlie or something else slightly floral, slightly musky, nicely clean would be my order of preference. Email greyladybast at yahoo dot com for mailing address.
Ok, that's ten, and greedy enough for now. I'd be happy with just the fuzzy, funky socks, though. A girl can't have enough fuzzy, funky socks.
Also, please, since I haven't seen anyone else's wish list, please point me in that direction. I might not be able to give much, or anything, but I'd like to know so I can at least try.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays.
