Sometimes it's easier to appreciate things you've seen over and over if there is someone new there to see it with you. I spent the first day of the fair's opening weekend with peeps from Con. Most of them were there for the beer and food. While I find being able to get food on a stick interesting, it has been years since I thought of it as an attraction. It reminded me that I always used to want funnel cake before a fair day was over.
ro_dan wanted to see two shows--Flying Debris and Barely Balanced. These shows are fairly similar so I asked him what it was about them that he liked. He said he thought they required the most talent. Being both musically challenged and physically uncoordinated, I think of most of the acts as requiring lots of talent. From what I have heard
ro_dan is not as musically challenged as I, so maybe that is why he thinks of the physical acts as more talented.
The second day I spent with peeps from AL, NC, and MD. Most of them were regulars at other fairs and only visiting Georgia's for the first or second time. A few were first-timers (I think). The regulars commented on the size and layout of the fairgrounds. There were a couple of shows they wanted to watch, but for the most part they wanted to catch up with friends they had not seen in a while. Meanwhile the first-timers seemed gung-ho to throw themselves into the fair full-bore. I cannot recall seeing anyone buying as much in one day since the time Frank talked me into the Musketeer outfit.
Whether I really came away with a new outlook on my home fair or not, it was an interesting way to spend the opening weekend. There should be at least two more opportunities this year to try it again with peeps I hope are coming on other weekends.
