I don't regret helping people, especially those in need. I don't regret turning out my pockets to do so, money is a means to an end. But to be lied to, used, and then left holding the bag because that person is unwilling to meet their obligations really, really sucks.
I was raised to know that you don't just walk away from your problems and leave them for someone else to clean up. I feel like if you make a promise you do your best to meet that promise, and if you can't you do your best anyway. To throw your hands up and say "It was your own dumb fault for believing in me" just isn't an option for me.
Life is full of choices. Mine was to help someone else. Hers was to abandon her promises and walk away from her obligations. Now I have to accept the consequences for both.
