"Black flowers blossom, fearless on my breath."

COMMENT!

The last two episodes of Season Four of House M. D. are, without a doubt, the most emotionally devastatingly and beautifully written television I've seen since...I don't know. A long damn time. Television doesn't make me cry, but I cried. Astounding. Television, even from Fox, can be brilliant.

My thanks to everyone who preordered the Alabaster: Wolves hardcover yesterday. You done good. On Amazon.com, the book went as high as 9,273 in general books, and landed in the Dark Horse top ten, at #9. Here are two screen caps (I had to take them), behind the cut:

This is all very cool. But the book needs to keep selling this well for at least a month or so, with a minimum of ~2,500 preorders. The people who hold the purse strings at Dark Horse have to be reassured there's a strong base of readers for the title. So, if you've preordered, again, thank you. You rock. But if you haven't, please do. By the way, order from Amazon and save 32% ($6.40) off the list price. No, I don't like supporting Amazon, either. But they've won, and if I want to be a working writer, I pretty much play with their toys or I don't play. That said, if you'd prefer to order from a local comic shop or bookstore, that's perfectly fucking bow tie. Just please preorder. Thanks. Again. Just for shits and giggles, let's make something cool happen...

For shits and giggles. And paying the bills.

Yesterday, the Mordorian Death March dragged me another 1,571 words towards the slopes of Orodruin. And THE END of Fay Grimmer. Also, I finally discovered a good title for chapter two (thank you, Lord Dunsany), and, later, while playing GW2, had a MAJOR breakthrough as regards plot (this is why I don't outline; I need my "eureka" moments). It's the sort of breakthrough that will make writing the second half of the novel vastly less painful.

Sometime near dark, UPS delivered the galley pages for Blood Oranges. It was raining. We were having dinner, and we heard the delivery. But then we forgot, it it was about 2:30 ayem before we remembered and went down to get them (I have until October 16th to get them back to Manhattan). And yes, the book is up for preorder, and yes, that's the final cover, and yep, I even sort of like the cover (more on that later). But, if you can preorder only one book just now, make it Alabaster: Wolves, please. Blood Oranges can wait.

For dinner, Spooky made chicken stew with asparagus, portabella, bay, lots of garlic, white beans, and diced tomatoes. Pretty much, except for the chicken, stuff from the pantry. Pantry soup. Found soup. With a fresh baguette. And pecan pie. At about 4:30 ayem, despite enough drugs to drop a bison (the giant fucking Ice Age sort), M. l'insomnie decided to drop by and keep me awake. I read John R. Fultz' "This Is How The World Ends" (eh, it was so-so, rushed, sort of an outline more than a story, and I hate it when writers - myself included - do that) from The Book of Cthulhu II.

More to say, but I'm arbitrarily stopping here. Too much work. Too little time. Oh, and please, please, please preorder the the Alabaster: Wolves hardcover. Let's break the Top Five at Dark Horse! Yup.
