I'm hearing delicious things about the
Prometheus Director's Cut, to be released in October. Like more conversation between David 8 and the Engineer. Oh, and here's translation of what, in the theatrical cut, was said by David, courtesy the linguist who created the Engineer's alien language:
David: ida hmanəm aɪ kja namṛtuh zdℇ:taha … ghʷɪvah-

I loved the film (saw it twice) and have gone back and read all the fun discussions you folks have had here on Caitlin's blog. Good stuff!
My question/observation is this. Assumption: There is this engineer facility on LV-223 and also at least an engineer home world, and probably many other planets occupied by engineers. (Sorry if this has already been covered and I just missed it.)
Most people (movie viewers and critics) assume the engineers have a master plan to come back and wipe out the human race. And that indeed is part of the movie's premise. But could it be possible the engineers (as a race) do NOT want to wipe out humans and that this facility on LV-223 was just a rogue facility working without the permission of their general race?
I say this because the movie clearly takes a position that the "incident" happened 2,000 years ago, and the remaining engineer has been asleep for 2,000 years. If the entire engineer race was in on this wiping-out-the-humans thing, wouldn't some engineer ship have stopped in on LV-223 and said "holy fuck, our facility has been wiped out. We better clean this shit up and then go finish off the humans."
But that never happens. No visitations in 2,000 years by any of their own race (as far as we know).
Possible conclusions: The engineers (as a race) know the LV-223 moon facility was wiped out and don't want to return to clean it up because the "black goo" is just that badass (still though, they had 2,000 years to come wipe out us humans another way).
Or, to the engineers, 2,000 years is the blink of an eye and so they (as a race) just haven't gotten around to checking in on LV-223 (better things to do).
Or, the engineer race has been exterminated.
Or, this facility on LV-223 was a rogue facility...perhaps even a rogue faction of engineers who are meddling in things they shouldn't be.
While I don't think it will ever be explained, I'd like to think the latter conclusion is true. It would make for a very interesting storyline for later movies. Engineers vs. engineers and the humans caught in between, etc., etc.
Anyway, just my babbling. I mostly get blank stares when I bring this up LOL.
