We're keeping a weather eye on Hurricane Earl. At least it's been downgraded to a Level 3. We're right at the edge of a "red zone" (high threat) and soundly in the yellow ("medium threat"). But we're on high ground, above the area that would have to be evacuated if worse came to worse. And the flood gates are strong. We should see the storm on ( Read more... )

One of you might want to give this a listen to pick up the handy hints:

I learned a lot from it....like tap water will keep indefinately in a plastic bottle as long as you keep it out of the sun and how to keep a room warmer by using a black bin bag to capture solar heat.

If you are planning on going shopping you might want to take advantage of the insomnia and go to one of the big chains that is open 24 hours...I used to do all my shopping at 1 in the morning. There usually aren't any queues and the grocery shelves are all being restocked with fresh stuff and the day old baked goods are being marked down for the morning so you get the best of both worlds.

Del's is a local phenomenon. It used to be Rhode Island only, but now can be found in other parts of New England.

it's awful here too. So hot and humid I wish, temporarily, that I had an air conditioner or a pool.

Here's hoping Earl continues to get down-graded as he comes up the coast, though, if he brought a cool breeze with him I might be inclined to be more gracious... at least today.

You are the person making me miss the ocean. Your adventures and descriptions make me long for something I haven't in years past. The last couple of years though...

It's a duty of mine.

98 degree heat and a hurricane. Indeed a sneaky month. Glad to be 50 miles inland.

I vote for the CNN's unlikely projected path where Earl decides he needs to visit the Sargasso Sea. Fiona and Gaston can follow him.
