"And who the hell is Stuntman Mike?"

Partly sunny today. And we are nervously watching the gulf as Helene gathers strength. Our high was 90F, with a heat index of 92F.

But I had a good writing day. I did 740 words and "finished." Before revisons, line edits, etc., the chapbook/novella comes to 17,701 words, the longest thing I have managed to finish in a while. I have to read it all tomorrow morning, fifty-eight pages, but I think I like it a lot. I thought it would close with a series of sudden shocks, and, instead, it closes with a whisper, which is a good thing.

Email with Jonathan Strahan today, and people at Writers House (one of the royaty checks is inbound), and the editor of the Oxford University Press book on Shirley Jackson, and...I think that's all.

I'm reading Charles Elton's Cimino: The Deer Hunter, Heaven’s Gate, and the Price of a Vision. A last night we began Griselda on Netflix. The afternoon's film was Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (2007).

Please visit the shop. Every little bit helps. Thanks.
