Using my ancient iPad, probably won't work... I agree with you, re. 1979 original "Alien" film. A genuine work - truly fine. I found your site re. the reference to "Blade Runner 2049", which I have not seen yet. I read thru your livejournal posts. Nice. You write with honesty. This is a rare thing these days. You write fiction, so our paths have not crossed, but I liked your comments on science, truth and beauty. I live in a town where the bookstores seem to be closing, and Starlink is now my prime cultural connection. God, but I miss books. I feel like I'm in a Ray Bradbury novel, sometimes (which is better than the William Gibson cyberpunk world I used to feel like I was in, I guess..) Glad you liked "The Martian"... one of my favourites. I honestly thought that I would have a chance to at least visit an orbital hotel, or maybe a tourist spot on Luna - when I was 9 years old, of course, and 2024 was a gazillion years in the far future. The future kind of went off-track.
Your books and short stories seem dark and full of pain. Sorry, but I work hard at avoiding negative outcomes. We live in this crazy post-post-modern world of pure batshit madness now, but also mixed with wild opportunity and possibility for extreme outcomes... maybe even successful outcomes. For me, modern fiction amplifies the negative, so I avoid it. We have to use our life energy to uplift and improve, and to try for truth. Even if it's hard.
I like your livejournal writing. I try to keep a research log, even if a lot of what I have done remains incomplete. It's ok to be exhausted. Means you're getting stuff done. And I appreciate your comments re. bills. Suddenly, everything is crazy expensive, and the property taxes are taking rocket-rides upwards, even if us groundlings are not. Most annoying. I clicked thru to your shop site, but my old iPad shows only blankness. (I use the iPad, because I hacked it with Russian software, and it's now a comfortable Linux-style tablet - but I cannot update Safari browser, so many sites don't work. I am hoping the old internet of 20 years ago somehow returns, but I doubt that will happen... but the limited old iPad is like an old typewriter, that seems to serve me well. (I have all these other machines - but using this unit is like a "Dogma" film effort - you limit yourself to just the very basics, and you find you can accomplish much more.) All the best, and good luck with your new projects. - RF
