My heroes fade to villains.

Utterly exhausted, for no good reason. Stormy on and off much of the day, which was muggy and hot. A high of 88F, with a heat index of 98F.

I signed books todays.

I hope no one will hold it against me for keeping this short. I'm just not up to it tonight.

I made the mistake today of posting, on Facebook, one of my occasional criticisms of bizarre word use:

The dubious use of "cringe" as a noun makes me, well, cringe. And, all in all, it's one of those words that has the misfortune of experiencing a sort of momentary vogue, making even correct uses tiresome.

And I was summarily advised, as always, about how "language evolves." Remember the six months that "because" evolved into a conjunction and the words "as," "since," and "for" were all but forgotten?

Oh. There was something else I was going to write about. No secret, the main reason I bother with social media? Well, it's not because I'm social. I never leave the house. I rarely take a phone call. The main reason is that social media offers precious opportunities to sell my fiction and have often kept the lights on. So when I do something like announce the cover art for a new short-story collection, I actually take note of the "likes" and comments that attend the announcement. Case in point, I released the Lee Moyer cover art for Bright Dead Star on Facebook and Twitter and then compared the results. Note that I have the maximum followers on Facebook, 5,000, while I have 7,198 followers on Twitter. Not Lana Del Rey numbers, but none too shabby. Anyway, the difference between the reaction on Facebook and Twitter, it taught me long ago that there's really no good reason for me to bother with Twitter (or whatever it's called). This time, while I got 246 "likes" and 47 comments on Facebook, I received a mere 47 "likes" and 1 comment on Twitter. I know that 2,100 people saw the post on Twitter, which makes the discrepency even more dismal (though I I have no idea how many people saw the post on Facebook). So, given all the grief that Twitter has brought me, I have no idea why I'm still there. Probably because I have been there since June 2009, and I am a creature of habit. Likely nothing more than that.

Anyway, do please visit the shop. I'm trying to write and keep the rent paid, and there are other bills incoming. Thanks.

Later Tater Beans,
Aunt Beast
