Our high today was 95F, with a heat index of 105F.
And I realized I have not been in an automobile since June 3rd, the last time I left the property.
I did find a the next book I'm reading, Adam Higginbotham's Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster on the Edge of Space, so there that. As I hurl myself at The Sun Always Shines on TV, it's best not to be reading fiction.
Tonight I finally saw Gil Kenan's Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) and no, it wasn't as good as Ghostbusters: Afterlife. But it was still a lot of fun. I think there are a lot of reasons Frozen Empire wasn't as good as its predessor. They're different sorts of films, and many of the fresh, unexpected elements that made the first film work, that made it a delight, are missing from second. Maybe worst at all, they're are just too many ideas in play, and, honestly, at times it feels like a someone made a life-action film from that awful animated Ghostbusters series. I was not delighted by it, and I'm not sure I'll ever watch it again, but, as I said, not awful. We're not talking Ghostbusters II here. There's not the sense present in Afterlife that the film is a sort of love letter to the original film, and that might be the loss of focus on Egon/Harold Ramis. And it may be (I suspect) that Gil Kenan is nowhere near as talented a director as Jason Reitman. Also, last, I feel like they toyed with there being something romantic between Phoebe and the ghost Melody, and if so, I wish they'd been less vague. It would have been a nice touch. I've thought all along that Phoebe is likely a lesbian. Maybe there were studio objections.
What else?
Well, I'm fed up with this shameful bullshit from deluded members of the Democratic Party and deluded Democratic voters that's its not much, much too late to replace President Biden and Vice-President Harris with a new ticket. It's not only monstrously disrepectful to a good man who's given his life in service to his country, it's absurd. You can't build a campaign in four months. The odds are Trump's going to win, and yes, that is a nightmarish thought, but throwing Biden to the wolves and trying to find a last minute hero who can beat Trump is lunacy. If the party didn't think Biden fit, they should havd addressed this a year and a half ago. And this sudden panic, this public display of certainty that Biden can't win, makes Trump's victory far more likely.
