Sunny today. Our high was 68F; warmer tomorrow.
Well, today was not as productive as I needed it to be, but it wasn't a loss. I made progress with "Terra Mater (Dissolve)," but I did not find THE END. So, hopefully tomorrow. my lit agent called from NYC about 10:30 this morning, and we talked about a lot of things. Which is one of several reasons the story did not get finished. This means, of course, that I will likely be at least two days later starting the novella than I had intended, but my writing has never been terribly good about keeping to self-imposed (or publisher-imposed) deadlines. I can only try.
Last night we watched Brian Helgeland's Finestkind (2023), which I'd been looking forward to, and it was better than I'd expected. Also, nice seeing something film in New Bedford and Fairhaven. Then we started a series Spooky's been interested in, Dark Skies, "based on the 'Leaphorn & Chee' novel series by Tony Hillerman and set in the 1970s." I went in with any expectations, and it's actually pretty good. Oh, and this afternoon I read "Pickman's Model," because Lovecraft seems to be soothing my nerves these days.
This afternoon's film was James Cameron's Avatar (2009). This film frustrates me so. I cannot help but wonder how good it might have been, if Cameron could write dialogue and direct human actors. The older I get, the less forgiving of these shortcomings I grow.
I hate to keep having to push this, but please look at
the GoFundMe and give if you can. Or, if you would prefer, visit
the Dreaming Squid Sundries shop. Thank you. Right now, we're just trying to make sure that May's rent will be covered. Meanwhile, have a fucking cupcake.
