Aphelion (338)

Sunny all day. Our high was 92F, with a heat index of 100F.

I was up at 4:30 a.m., and I wrote another 1,077 words on "Black Water (Murder Ballad No. 14)." This seems to have become the title, at least for now. It will appear in Sirenia Digest No. 207. I am pretty sure I'll finish it in the morning.

I recieved this afternoon from the Department of Anatomy of Midwestern University (Glendale, Ariz.) a copy of the issue of THe Anatomical Record that contains the paper I coauthored with Drew Gentry and Jim Parham, naming the giant Cretaceous freshwater turtle, Appalachemys ebersoli. It only feels real when I hold it in my hands, printed on paper, color illustrations and all.

That was the best part of the day. I read more of Deathbird Stories:

* "Adrift Just Off the Islets of Langerhans: Latitude 38° 54' N, Longitude 77° 00' 13" W"
* "Bleeding Stones"
* "Rock God"
* "Ernest and the Machine God"

I had email exchanges with Jun at McWane and Rebecca Eskildsen at Writers House and Bill at SubPress.

I stay busy every moment that I can.

Please have a look at the shop. It's not just for the mice, you know.

Later,
Aunt Beast
