Lydia says, "No pictures. Talk to my agent." (82)

Warmer today, after an overnight low of 39˚F, we made it to 72˚F.

This morning I wrote another 1,157 words on the new Tinfoil Dossier story.

And today I gave the World Fantasy Convention 2022 committee notice that I will be unable to appear, and yes, it's a shame, I wanted to do it, but it was beyond me.

Last night's "scary" movie was Joel Schumacher's Lost Boys (1987). I will always love this film, but I can think of so very ways it could have been better. And then today's movie was Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, a film I very much admire, and one that touches on a lot of my fears of riots, revolution, and anarchy.

I was hoping I'd be able to write something more substantial today about Once Upon a Time in America, but I think that's something else I'm just not up to right now. I will say that it truly is a very fine film, with many fine performances. It suffers many of the weaknesses of film of the 1970s and early 1980s, most of them technical. The most unexpected weakness, though, has got to be the insufferable and syrupy score by Ennio Morricone, whom I usually think of as just shy of genius. But here it slathers, overwhelms, drowns out, and smothers in sentimentality. Oh, and I don't think this film could even be made now; too much of New York City has been devoured by gentrification and excessive development.

Please have a look at mine and Kathryn's shop at Big Cartel.

Later Tater Beans,
Aunt Beast
