"Meet me in the woods tonight." (77)

Oct 16, 2022 16:35

Sunny and still warm today, 81˚F, but there's our first truly cool air of the autumn on its way. A freeze is predicted for Tuesday night.

This morning, another round of heavy editing on the thing I have been writing, coupled with the addition of about 500 words of additional dialogue. And late this afternoon, Kathryn read it, and she liked it a lot (and was annoyed I'd not told her what I've been working on). And so now I can tell you. It's a new Tinfoil Dossier novella, set (mostly) a few years after The Tindalos Asset. So, there you go. It doesn't yet have a title, and I'm going to wait a couple of weeks before I say more about the plot. This one feels delicate.

And I have to get on a piece for Sirenia Digest No. 201.

I've rescheduled a planned meeting with Jun at McWane tomorrow, to work out the figures for MP2, because all the writing and editing this weekend didn't leave me time to organize all the files I need to have ready for the meeting. So, Tuesday afternoon, instead. Which was a relief. I'll spend the next two days on MP2, and then I'll get back to work on the new novella.

My thanks to everyone who helped out with the big "help us pay the taxes" sale via the Big Cartel shop. We've pretty much reached our goal, which means that whole things are still a little tight we are not broke. If you have one of the colored monster doodles coming, be patient. Those will take me a week or two to get done. And, of course, the shop is still open for business and there's still lots of good stuff up.

I couple of things I posted to Twitter today (jumping back to MP2):

I honestly think that mosasaur phylogenetics is giving me an ulcer.

And you know how those people in Lovecraft stories glimpse something that drives them mad? Well, forget non-Euclidean geometry and amorphous star-spawn. They're seeing unresolved polytomies....

Last night's "scary" movie was Andrés Muschietti's It (2017). I do not stick a "Part 1" suffix on there, because I'm so fond of the first film and so disliked the second film I pretend there was just the one.

This afternoon a documentary on the Yellowstone supervolcano (you don't expect geology documentaries to be absurdly lurid, but this one was) and another on the development of the atom bomb. That was today.

Later Tater Beans,
Aunt Beast
