Sitting here waiting to lose electricity and/or the internet, as Claudette rages around us. We're under a flash-flood warning until 2 a.m. Fortunately, we're on high ground, not down in the valley. But constant thunder and lightning, and a river where the driveway used to be.
That said, today was a surprisingly good/productive day. To start with, I rediscovered the novel I was about to start writing early in 2020 when COVID-19 struck. There was all this stuff I was just carrying around in my head (I do this), nothing written down, plot and characters and such, and in the chaos after lockdown began in March...I forgot it. Just fucking forgot it all. I realized this about May or June. And I thought it was gone forever, and then yesterday, talking with Kathryn, it all came back to me. So, the novel I will be beginning, maybe as soon as tomorrow or Monday, will not be this novel, not the novel that I thought, last week, I was about to begin. It will be the newly unforgotten novel, instead. I'll be less vague as the weeks go by, but right now, I'm just fucking amazed.
Oh, and the correct galley notes for Vile Affections arrived, so I can get that done this week.
And I read mosasaur papers, and I worked on Pleistocene cave matrix (armadillo galore, see photo below).
I was very saddened to hear of the death of President Biden's older dog, Champ. I've never cried over the death of a president's pet before, and I never imagined that I would, but Champ's death smacked me hard today.
Later,
